KOTA KINABALU: Fifth placed Kota Marudu are buoyant with confidence that it could halt KDM Malaysia Football League table leaders Putatan from bagging the three points from their match at Penampang Stadium today (Saturday). The conviction, its team manager Jaikol Pondok said, stemmed from the players' form, which he described as in tip-top."We are prepared to face Putatan and I am quite certain that our players will be able to give our rival team a run for their money," he said.ADVERTISEMENT He is also convinced that lady luck has always been favouring his team whenever they play away."But it won't be an easy passage for us though because we will be facing a team that has never been defeated so far," he said.Putatan won five and drew four of its matches in the league with 19 points to its credit.Nevertheless, Kota Marudu are undaunted with the pressure and in fact relish the opportunity to meet Putatan to prove that they are no pushovers.ADVERTISEMENT Pondok said Kota Marudu won 3-0 in its away match with Kimanis recently, which showed that his team is capable of notching victory playing away."We want to continue this trend when we meet Putatan tomorrow (Saturday)," he said.

Kota Marudu have so far amassed 12 points from seven matches, which gave a slight advantage over Putatan in that they have two matches in hand while Putatan will already have completed 10 matches after Saturday.Putatan, on the other hand, will be fielding their best players in the match. And if their registration process of signing new players is smooth, a South African player will add more strength to their line-up.According to their team manager, Jacquin J. Ismail, the South African was formerly with a Division One team in his homeland. However, he is also banking on the advantage of playing in front of their homeground supporters. He said the team wants to maintain their unbeaten record and also their top position in the league.Putatan were catapulted to the top position thanks to Papar who recently defeated former table leaders Penampang A, currently in third place.Papar, who are now in second place, will be meeting Penampang B, also on Saturday.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
