Over 100 attend cocoa course on advanced tech

KENINGAU: Over 100 participants were involved in the second series of the Advanced Course on Cocoa Plantation Technology 2014 from Nov 19 to 21.Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development, Datuk Bobbey Suan said, the current cocoa production is still not able to accommodate the country's demand, therefore the Malaysia Cocoa Board, (LKM) was organising programmes to help increase cocoa production."One of the programmes organised is the New Cocoa Crop Programme, where every year as much as 430 hectares of new areas in the interior would be used for cocoa cultivation.ADVERTISEMENT "This programme will be continued next year and there are still many areas in Sook, Nabawan and Keningau that can be explored for cocoa plantation. Bobbey also said LKM is helping farmers increase their cocoa productivity through the Increase Cocoa Production Programme."Practical training provided to the farmers are also part of the initiatives taken to help increase cocoa production. With the price of cocoa being at RM8, 000 to RM9, 000 per metric tonne, cultivation of cocoa can also be a very good source of income for a family."
