Couple among three killed in K'batangan, Tawau crashes

KINABATANGAN: A couple was killed while their 18-month-old daughter sustained minor injury when the lorry container they were travelling in collided with a 10-tonne lorry at Km 126 of Sandakan-Lahad Datu road on Friday.It was learnt that the victims were heading to Lahad Datu when the tragic incident occurred at about 9.50pm.The lorry container was said to have swerved into the opposite lane, resulting in the oncoming lorry crashing into it.ADVERTISEMENT The container driver was killed instantly while his wife was rushed to the district hospital where she succumbed to injuries shortly after. The baby girl who sustained minor injury was being treated at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan while the lorry driver, who is from Sandakan, was given outpatient treatment. The bodies of the victims, from Tawau, were sent to the district hospital for post-mortem. The case is being investigated under 41(1) of the Road Transport Ordinance 1987.Meanwhile, in TAWAU, a 45-year-old woman pillion rider was killed when the motorcycle ridden by her nephew collided with a Toyota Hilux at Mile 7, Jalan Kalabakan-Keningau, at about 6.30am, Friday.District Police Chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah said the woman, identified as Becce Halim, died while being rushed to the Kalabakan Health Clinic.ADVERTISEMENT The victim's nephew identified as Asdar Kammisu, 30, sustained minor injury to his elbow and calf. The Toyota Hilux's driver, 61, a local, escaped unhurt.It was learnt that Asdar and Becce were heading to their workplace from home when the tragic incident occurred.
