Pantu coal mine ordered closed for now

KUCHING: The Fire and Rescue Department has ordered the temporary closure, from midnight, of the coal mine in Pantu, near Sri Aman, where an explosion occurred in the mine's tunnel Saturday morning in which three foreign workers were killed.Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station chief, Ranger Moos said the order was issued after the Hazmat (harzardous materials and items) team had identified the gas leakage and the type of gas in the tunnel.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"At 8.30 (Saturday) night, five members of the Hazmat team had entered the tunnel until 260 metres inside and detected methane gas," he said when contacted Sunday.ADVERTISEMENT Ranger said following the discovery, an order to temporarily close the mine was issued, after which there was no more worker on duty to look after the water pump. – Bernama
