Petronas hosts appreciation dinner for the press
KOTA KINABALU: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) executives and staff took time out to socialise and play host to local newsmen here. They held a special night for the media practitioners, which Sabah and Labuan Regional Office General Manager Julita Untol pointed out was "to recognise the role and importance of newsmen to the national oil company."

She said through the media, Petronas would be able to listen to public opinion on their performance and also for them to highlight their role in developing the country's oil and gas industry, as well as its many initiatives.

"We truly appreciate the cooperation given by the media ... through such engagement the media would understand what we do and what we stand for.

"We may have different opinions at times, but ultimately Petronas is committed to upholding the mandate, which has been bestowed upon us in a responsible and sustainable manner," she said.

"We would like to honour and thank each and every one of you for your support," she added.

Untol noted that apart from Petronas corporate work, several trips were also organised for the media to visit their project sites, including to the Imbak Conservation Centre last June.

"Petronas has made a total of RM77 million contribution through the Sabah Foundation Imbak Canyon Conservation partnership for the construction of its Studies Centre.

"The centre was launched last July," said Untol, adding that an additional RM6 million was given to support Sabah Foundation activities in the area, bringing the total to RM83 million.

Over 150 media workers turned up for the event where they were entertained by performances, including a live art painting display done by local artists.
