Tribute to 'selfless' women of KKCWA
KOTA KINABALU: Founders, past and present leaders and their committees have made huge sacrifices in terms of time and energy to ensure the survival of the Kota Kinabalu Chinese Women Association (KKCWA) through the decades.Paying tribute to KKCWA, guest of honour Datin Vicky Yee said the ladies have served selflessly and given their best in contributing towards the betterment of the association.

"They love, cherish and protect their association and Tzu Yu Integrated Kindergarten like a mother showering love upon her child. As the proverb goes, 'A mother prepares a world for her children which she will never see'.

"That might have been the case when the KKCWA was formed 60 years ago and when the kindergarten was built 50 years ago by its founder and her contemporaries.

"With respect, if those former KKCWA leaders and members could see the achievements of the association and its kindergarten, I believe they would be proud of you and the fruits of relentless hard work," she said when officiating at the swearing-in of the 34th Board of Directors of KKCWA (2014-2016) recently. Wong Ing Hung has been re-elected President.

Yee noted that KKCWA has stood steadfastly in the face of hardships and challenges all these years. "I am happy to see that the association has adhered to its original objectives which are to foster unity, promote self-development and care for the welfare of members," she added.

The late Datuk Chia Hiap Jee founded the association in the fifties, and, together with other women of her era, established the pre-school institution in the sixties.

Given the multi-racial character of the pupil population, Yee said the kindergarten management decided to incorporate the word "Bersepadu" (Integrated) into the name of the kindergarten in 2010.

"Recently, a team of educationists from Korea visited Tzu Yu and were very impressed with the progress achieved thus far."
