Houses, stalls destroyed in fires
KOTA KINABALU: Fire destroyed three blocks of 'kongsi' house at Kg Tatahan, Inanam, Sunday. A source from the State Fire and Rescue Department said rescue personnel rushed to the scene following a distress call at about 6.23pm.

It could not immediately be confirmed at press time if anyone was hurt in the fire.

In a separate incident, two wooden houses were razed in a fire at Kg Teringai in Kota Marudu the same day. However, no casualties were reported.

Five personnel from the Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Department led by its Operations Chief, Gabuh Maradan, rushed to the scene after receiving a call at about 1.18pm.

The operation ended at about 2.41pm with no casualties reported.

Meanwhile, in LABUAN, fire destroyed a row of 14 food stalls at the old market at downtown Jalan OKK Awang Besar, Sunday.

The fire, which broke out at 4.05pm, is believed to have started from one of the stalls and the damage has not been ascertained.

Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer, Jason Bilin, said investigations were still being carried out but no casualties were reported.

Twenty-three firemen from the Kg Jawa station took about half an hour to bring the fire under control.

"We managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other premises, and we have yet to ascertain the cause of the fire and the estimated losses. By the time we reached, the fire had already engulfed the stalls," he said.

The stalls have been vacated since middle of last month after the market vendors and operators were relocated to the newly-completed Labuan Market Complex.
