A proposal to abolish the Sedition Act and national-type schools are among issues which will be focused on, in the debate by Melaka Umno at the 2014 Umno General Assembly, beginning Tuesday.Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the issue on the Sedition Act would be debated under the social agenda, and national-type schools under education.

"We will voice the views of Melaka as to how we want to protect public security, much of which are closely connected with the Sedition Act.

"On the motion on education, Melaka will take a careful approach to avoid a racist issue on national-type schools which were built in Melaka before independence," he said.

Idris, who is also Melaka Umno Liaison Committee chairman said this after attending a Pengkalan Kundur State Assembly mass circumcision ceremony.

He said Melaka Umno would also debate the motions on religion and economy

at the five-day assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

"The issue of contracts of Malaysian giant companies being offered to outside companies and not to local companies will be touched upon in the economic issue, while on the motion on religion we will look at the related current issues.

"We also remind debators from Melaka to debate with facts and figures and show wisdom, and not merely be driven by emotions and feelings," he added. – Bernama
