Foreign envoys meet-up over mine accident

KUCHING: A meeting involving representatives from the Indonesian Consulate, Myanmar Embassy and North Korean Embassy, together with the Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) management was held to discuss matters relating to the victims of the coal mine explosion in Sri Aman on Saturday.In the incident at Selantik, Pantu, the three workers who were killed comprised North Korean Pang Chung Hyok, 29; Myanmar Tun Tun Win, 36; and, Indonesian, Kardianto, 38.

Thirty others were injured. They comprised eight North Koreans, Myanmar (six), Indonesian (eight), Chinese (six) and Bangladesh (two).

It was learnt Sunday, a representative of the North Korean Embassy currently in the city, has been authorised to deal in all matters relating to their nationals.

About 3pm Monday, the bodies of the victims were transferred to HUS here.

At the moment, representatives from Myanmar, Indonesia and the coal mine were briefed by HUS senior forensics consultant Dr Norliza Ibrahim on the progress of surgeries carried out. – Bernama
