KUCHING: An investigation team from the Fire and Rescue Department is continuing investigation at the Selantic, Pantu, Sri Aman coal mine blast which killed three workers and injured 30 others. Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department director Nor Hisham Mohamad said the investigation would focus on the condition in the tunnel to determine the lay out of equipment which could have triggered the explosion.

According to Nor Hisham, investigations on the victims and the management were also carried out while waiting for the owner to return from China.

He also confirmed that the tunnel had been closed for three days since Sunday night and was being guarded while the investigation was going on.

"We are also investigating to find out why an emergency call on the incident was received late. In fact, the caller refused to identify himself but the department still went to the scene to conduct inspection," he added. – Bernama
