Joint patrols with the army in Labuan

LABUAN: The Military Community Partnership (MCP), involving the armed forces, police and Rukun Tetangga Voluntary Patrol (SRS) was officially launched, Saturday, at Batu Arang.Flagging off the joint patrol were Maj Gen Dato' Ansar Ali Majeth of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), OCPD Adzhar Othman and Labuan Unity Department Director Mimie D Selva Kumar.Since the SRS was formed a year ago, Batu Arang has achieved zero house break-in, according to village head Mazlan Datuk Mohd Din. ADVERTISEMENT Describing the initiative under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) 8, Ansar Ali, who was the guest-of-honour, noted that the collaboration had reduced crime rates in Labuan. It had reduced to 9.41 per cent from 202 to 183 cases."This show of force has not only reduced crime but also strengthened the esprit de corps among the enforcement agencies and the general public. In discharging their respect roles, undesirable elements have been curtailed," said Ansar Ali, who is the Commander of RMAF Region 2.Sharing the same platform, the police chief said crime prevention did not rest on the shoulders of the police alone, but on all walks of life to ensure their properties were safe."Through this cooperation and understanding, the fear of becoming a victim of crime would be eliminated and improve public confidence in the police and armed forces," Adzhar said.ADVERTISEMENT The joint patrol consists of three RT volunteers, a cop and an army personnel. They would make their rounds from midnight to 6am three times a week.
