TAMBUNAN: Those living in villages must be aware of the importance of security in their community to ensure peace and harmony is maintained.Keningau District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Douglas Nyeging Taong said the safety of every individual against any type of crime is not only important in towns and cities but in villages as well."Our efforts to free society from the threat of crimes such as theft, drugs, fights, murders and so on are also necessary in remote villages because each life must be protected.ADVERTISEMENT "Crime can happen anywhere. Hence, it is important for the community to well-informed on security. Only with such mentality can crimes be prevented," he said.Douglas said this when launching the Community Policing Programme at the Multipurpose Hall of Mukin Pahu and Kirokot in Tambunan, about 80 kilometers from Keningau. The one-day programme was attended by nearly 400 people, including Police Officer from IPD Keningau, the Tambunan Assistant District Officer, local community leaders, as well as the surrounding community.Among the activities were dialogue on security issues between the police and locals, exhibition, folk sports, karaoke, lucky draws and others.ADVERTISEMENT The programme received encouraging response from the villagers despite having problem in terms of transport and challenging road conditions, in addition to the Mukim Pahu and Kirokot also located approximately 33 miles from Tambunan Police Station.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Later, they visited the child of a policeman warded in Tambunan Hospital and a bed-ridden police personnel.
