Free IT courses are available

KOTA KINABALU: Those interested to take up government-sponsored training courses can do so without financing worries. The Ministry of Resource Development and Information Technology has since 2005 been offering free Information and Communications Technology (ICT) courses.There are a total of 71 ICT courses provided, ranging from basic computer usage to sophisticated software applications, focusing on graphic design, web development, webpage designing, computerised accounting, inventory, payroll, animation, networking, operating systems, PC maintenance, photo editing, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation.

However, this year, new subjects had been introduced to meet the needs of the public such as basic programming skill, statistical analysing, project management and mobile applications.Language classes are also offered to those who are keen in learning other languages such as conversational English, Korean, Japanese and Mandarin. Earlier, in 2011, the Ministry had also introduced two prestigious Information Technology (IT) certified professional programmes such as the CCNA (CISCO Certified Network Associate) Routing and Switching, and MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate) which are recognised world wide.Currently, unemployed trainees are also taught on how to search for employment online.

Earlier this year, more than 50,000 students in Sabah were trained in ICT and language courses in Kota Kinabalu, Kudat, Kota Marudu, Matunggong, Pitas, Paitan, Kota Belud, Tamparuli, Papar, Sipitang, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Sandakan, Ranau, Tawau, Keningau, Tambunan, Kunak, Kinabatangan, Semporna, Lahad Datu and many other districts.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
