Hong Leong Bank sees growth in digital banking

KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Bank (HLB) says it may experience another exponential growth in numbers of new users embracing its digital banking platform, the Hong Leong Connect.Chief Operating Officer, Digital Innovation & Transactional Banking Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz said the number of users jumped 302 per cent from 14,000 when the service was introduced in March to 60,000 users presently.

"We will soon start marketing efforts to promote this service, first within our 3.5 million current account, savings account (CASA) and 14.3 million online customers," she said after launching the digital brand here Wednesday.

"You may sometimes forget to bring your ATM card but you seldom forget your smartphone. Hong Leong Connect transforms your smartphone into your ATM card," she said, adding HLB customers can withdraw cash at any HLB ATM without using their ATM/debit card.

The Hong Leong Connect provides personal digital banking services across multiple platforms and devices, from online to mobile and tablet banking, and also features the 'PEx' service for users to send money to anyone using their mobile phone numbers.

"We are doing the pilot test in Vietnam. The partnership between HLB Vietnam and Parkson Vietnam enables our Vietnam customers to pay for their purchases at Parkson by just using their smartphone," she said.

Earlier, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Tan Kong Khoon said the bank has reinvented Hong Leong Connect as a new regional digital banking platform for its core domestic market in Malaysia and in Asia, covering Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Hong Kong and China. The refined digital banking strategy aims to gain traction in customer engagement through pioneering innovation, he said. – Bernama
