KENINGAU: MCA Keningau deputy chairman Kapitan Chee En Kong proposed the government give more attention to life jackets, making it compulsory for tourists who commute to islands via speed boat and ferry. To illustrate his point, he said during his recent trip to Vietnam, he went on a boat trip, and could see that passengers were ordered to wear safety jackets on board. If they failed to adhere to it, they would be fined. He said that this should be emulated and implemented here.

This should be given serious attention as about 3,000 to 5,000 tourists go to Labuan and Menumbok via speed boat and ferry on a daily basis, said Chee. "Those who commute from Labuan to Brunei and Labuan to Kota Kinabalu should also be given life jackets," he added.
