Fined for causing hurt

KOTA KINABALU: A 27-year-old jobless Timorese was slapped with a RM1,200 fine or three months behind bars for assaulting a man at an entertainment outlet last year.Leonardus Iskail admitted before Magistrate Mohd Faiz Omar to voluntarily causing hurt to one Kristen Maduka, 19, at 2am on March 10, 2013 at the ground floor of the Cheer's Pub & Café in Donggongon, Penampang.

According to the facts of the case, Leonardus punched Kristen after one of the latter's friends made an indecent hand gesture at him. Leonardus' group and Kristen's group had earlier been involved in an argument.

Leonardus was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to one year or fine of up to RM2,000, or both, if convicted.

In another case, two men were jailed and fined after they pleaded guilty to having syabu.

Jerwan Jamil, 23, was sentenced to 10 months' jail for having 0.25gm of syabu at 3.26pm on Aug 6 at Taman Indah Permai, Menggatal. Dominic Chu Tze Voon, 32, was fined RM4,000 or eight months' jail for having 0.14gm of syabu at 9.40pm on Oct 18 at Jalan Sepanggar. Inspector Syahrin Ali prosecuted.
