Sabah will be ready for season kick-off

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah team manager George O'Callaghan said the squad should be ready for the season kick-off next year."There is still a lot of work needed to be done to the team and the fitness level of some of the players is still not up to the mark as yet."At the moment the players have been given the idea of how we expect them to play on the pitch and there are obviously still room for improvement, and I would say the team should be ready before the kick-off."

Although there was no official confirmation from Sabah Football Association, the line-up of players who are set to feature for Sabah next season is almost complete.There was a match held on Thursday afternoon between the players most likely to make the squad but due to the heavy downpour, the game was unfortunately cut short.George and his team were seen trying to rectify each of the players' mistakes with the help of El Hadji Diouf as well at the end of the session.Despite the slippery surface, new Irish striker Eamon Zayed showed very good touches on the ball and seemed to be good with both feet as well and he also linked well with local import Shafiq Jamal, Leopold Alfonso and Diouf up front.

Meanwhile, it was understood that only 18 players will get to travel with the team for the Yunnan Asean International Tournament to be held from December 5-10.Sabah team Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri TC Goh had earlier said the tournament will give the team a minimum of three matches to play as eight teams were invited and they will be divided into two groups.
