TAWAU: Primary schools in Merotai will receive the highest amount of education assistance thus far, with some RM250,000 allocated this year. Tourism, Culture and Environment Assistant Minister-cum-Merotai Assemblyman Datuk Pang Yuk Ming said since 2008 schools in Merotai have been receiving funds to improve the pupils' academic performance.

"This year Merotai will receive the highest contribution, thanks to the excellent performance of three schools here, which are listed as the State's top 10 schools in the recent Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) 2014 results," he said.

"It is also pleasing to hear SK Bombalai emerge as number one again after earning the tenth spot in the previous, 2013 UPSR examinations," he said.

This means the school has already clinched the top spot twice, in 2012 and this year, he added.

Pang said for the school's good performance another RM10,000 will be sponsored for the school to allow the best pupils and the teachers to visit Singapore.

The two other top schools made it into the top 10 list are SK Pasir Putih and SK Bahagia.

Pang said 200 projectors will also be given to primary schools, while SK Bombalai will receive 15 projectors, one for each of its classes so they can retain their excellent track record.

In relation to this, he appealed to the Government to look seriously into keeping its plans in improving facilities at schools in the rural areas so students can learn in a conducive environment.

"For example, the open hall plan for SK Bombalai has never been started although the announcement had been made by the previous Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

"SK Bombalai should have received better treatment from the Government as it has consistently produced good students," he said.
