MANGSHI (China): In another surprise move, Sabah Rhinos have signed Singapore international Fazrul Nawaz for the new 2015 Premier League season. It was the second surprise following the signing of Abdoulaye Faye from Senegal on Wednesday.

The 1.79m tall midfielder is set to replace Australian Srecko Mitrovic for the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) slot after the latter's contract lapsed.

"As the CEO of the team I can confirm to you that Fazrul from Singapore is the latest import to fill in the AFC quota," said Sabah Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri TC Goh.

"He arrived in Kota Kinabalu here on Wednesday night and we had a final decision, and I am glad to announce that he has agreed to sign a one-year contract with Sabah Rhinos for the coming season.

"Fazrul has made 70 appearances for Singapore and with his signing, we have completed our four foreign imports quota – El Hadji Diouf, Eamon Zayed, Abdoulaye Faye (the other three)."

According to Goh, Fazrul will not be joining the team for the China trip where the competition started on Friday and he will only join the team on their return on Thursday for the friendly matches against Sime Darby and PKNS.

Meanwhile, the Rhinos here in Mangshi, Yunnan will take on Lijang FC in their opening match in the 2014 Yunnan-Asean International Football Tournament today (Saturday) at the Mangshi Sports Centre Synthetic Pitch at 10am.

Six professional teams are taking part and Sabah have been placed in the group that also included Myanmar.

The second placed team from each group will then have to compete with the winning teams from a local league for a place in the semifinal against the earlier group winners.
