PUTATAN: Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hassan Malek suggested that more sub-distribution centres for co-operatives' products be opened in the State.According to Hassan, if possible, each district should have one sub-distribution centre.

"The existence of the sub-distribution centre in each district can help smoothen the distribution process of daily necessities to the co-operative shops as well as individual shops.

"The sub-distribution centre is also important to ensure shop owners get enough supply for their shops," he said during the launching of the Coop Mart supermarket, here, Saturday.

Hassan said he would inform the Chief Minister to work with the concerned ministry to ensure the sub-distribution centre in each district would be opened under the name of Coop 1M. Hassan said he was informed that the Coop Mart had been appointed as one of the distribution centres in the city and Keningau.

Besides that, he also called on all co-operatives to sell the Coop 1M and Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) products in their respective shops as well as other brand products.

"We can see that since the Coop 1M and KR1M products were introduced, the feedback from the people has been very supportive," he said.

Hassan stated that the KR1M products were introduced as the Government is concerned over the financial burden faced by people because of the increase in prices of essential items.

He said the items in the KR1M are cheaper compared to the other popular brands and the people could save on their spending for their daily essential items.

According to Hassan, the KR1M products were of the same quality as other international brands but cheaper.

Hassan also advised the co-operatives and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs in the State to come up with products which are competitive in terms of quality and price so that the products would be marketed under the Coop 1M brand in the future.

He said there is room for the co-operatives to improve their respective business through programmes planned by his ministry or the Malaysian Co-operatives Commission.

Meanwhile, Kop-Pusamaju Bhd Adviser Arsit Sedi said thanks to Alliance Islamic Bank, the building of the Coop Mart supermarket was bought for RM4.8 million.

In terms of development, Arsit said Kop-Pusmaju Bhd would enter a joint venture (JV) with the Semporna District Council to build 39 units of shoplots and JV with the Sabah Urban Development Co-operation (SUDC) to build 37 units of shoplots in Lahad Datu.

Among others, Arsit said the Kop-Pusmajau Bhd would invest in the mixed development on Sedco land in Kinarut for commercial and housing development.
