SESB 'closing eye on power thefts in LD'
LAHAD DATU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has been urged to be more aggressive in addressing the problem of electricity theft in slum areas, especially in Kg Puyut, Kg Unta, Sabah Baru and several other squatter colonies in the district. In making the call, PKR Silam Vice Chairman I, Djapri Kudosat, said the matter was already a longstanding issue due to lack of aggressive and effective action from SESB.

"We should not be surprised if disruptions occur frequently in the east coast areas, including in Lahad Datu and Kunak, due to electrical theft," he told Daily Express.

As the agency tasked to provide good electricity supply in Sabah, SESB should play a better role because people's expectations are very high.

"What does it mean by improved quality of supply in the State, including the installation of a new transformer, which is worth millions of ringgit if the problem of theft and electrical interference always occurs?" he asked.

Djapri also submitted a photo of the situation in squatter colonies in Lahad Datu where there are many illegal connections.

"What is their (SESB) mechanism to solve this problem and thus bring awareness to the public about the dangers of illegal connections?" he asked.
