KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) wants Bumiputera companies to tap the Domestic Investment Strategic Fund (DISF) to raise their productivity.Mida Chairman Tan Sri Amirsham A. Aziz said under the DISF, the investment promotion agency had approved 135 projects with funds amounting to RM577.6 million as at end-November.

"Out of the total, 32 projects, amounting to RM124.5 million or 22 per cent, were allocated for Bumiputera companies.

"The companies were involved in various industries such as aerospace; automotive; electronic and electrical; solar and oil and gas," he said at a convention on 'Aspirations of Muslim Entrepreneurs 2014' organised by Mida and the Malaysian Islamic Chamber of Commerce (DPIM) here Wednesday.

The maiden one-day convention, attended by 350 participants, is aimed at providing entrepreneurs with an insight of investment opportunities, government assistance and facilities offered to compete globally.

"Entrepreneurs need to enhance their skills in business management and investment to equip themselves with entrepreneurship knowledge and business network with other companies in order to expand offshore," Amirsham said. Meanwhile, DPIM President Tan Sri Muhammad Ali Hashim advised new Bumiputera entrepreneurs to raise their awareness on initiatives and facilities provided by the government.

"We hope corporate Muslim entrepreneur bodies will work together to guide and expose new entrepreneurs on how to operate a stable business," he said. –Bernama
