Timber-laden trailer driver critical after Ranau crash

RANAU: A trailer truck driver transporting timber was left in critical condition after his timber-laden truck went out of control and plunged some 20 metres into a river bank here on Wednesday morning.In the incident which happened at about 4.40am in Kg Lohan, Ulu Ranau, the 36-year-old man, Nasrullah Bin Burhan, was travelling from the direction of Ranau town and was transporting timber to a sawmill in Bongkud, Ranau.It was believed that on arrival at the scene of the accident, the man lost control of the truck he was driving, and crashed into the Sg Lohan bridge railings before plunging into the river bank.ADVERTISEMENT Witnesses living in the nearby area claimed they were suddenly awakened by a loud crash, followed by a tremor which they initially thought was a small earthquake only to find out it was actually an accident. "A rescue engine manned by four personnel led by me rushed to the scene which was located approximately 10 miles from the fire station."Arriving at the site, we found the trailer and managed to rescue the man who was trapped in the driver seat before rushing him to the Ranau Hospital by ambulance," he said, adding that the operation ended at about 5.53am.
