KOTA KINABALU: Christmas has come early to members of the Persatuan Tobilung Bersatu Sabah (Tobisa) with RM30,000 donated to them after their excellent show at the World Cup Dance Competition held in Algarve, Portugal, some months ago. Although the Tobisa dancing group emerged seventh best from 32 nations, their two gold, four silver and two bronze medals were enough to win the heart of Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Ewon Ebin.

The good news was announced by Ewon at an appreciation dinner for the Tobisa Dance World Cup group, here, recently. Ewon, who was proud of the team of 12 dancers, said their feat should be exemplary for other associations to emulate.

"I truly compliment Tobisa's effort as they have brought the country and the State's name to the world stage.

"Efforts like this are important for the nation and the State to be known the world over. Success like this shows that Sabahans have the ability and skills to compete against other nations," he said.

Ewon hoped the fund will assist and support more of Tobisa efforts and activities to send a team to the same competition next year.

It is understood one of the dancers from Tobisa, Marius Manoel, also took the Special Jury Award when he was picked as the best participant in the 2014 Dance World Cup Edition against 3,000 other dancers.

Ewon also lauded the Tobisa effort to publish a complete version of the Dusun Tolibung bi-lingual dictionary, which is so far 90 per cent complete.

The association plans another in the near future on Customs and Traditions, while they also plan to set up a heritage school to preserve the Tobilung Dusun language for children four to five years old.
