KOTA KINABALU: A 28-year-old Indonesian Bugis was fined RM5,500 or four months' jail for having a fake driving licence.Rahim Nordin admitted before Magistrate Faiz Omar to committing the offence while driving a mini bus at 11am on Nov 14 this year along Jalan Bundusan, in Penampang.

Traffic Prosecuting officer Inspector Hanif Mamyudi told the court that Rahim produced the fake driving licence and a fake MyKad to police during a roadblock at the said place.

Rahim was charged under Section 108(1)(e) of the Road Transport Act which carries a fine of between RM5,000 and RM20,000 or jail between one year and five years, or both, on conviction.

Rahim, through his counsel Nelson Angang, requested for a fine saying he is married with two children, adding that his local wife is only working as a shop assistant. Hanif, however, pressed for a deterrent sentence. Rahim was in November jailed eight months for having a fake MyKad. In another case, five men were fined RM2,000 or four months' jail each after they admitted to drink-driving.

Jolly Alex, Brian Sanpan, Wong Chee Shin, Sanford Lydon Tunion and Su See Yie, aged between 23 and 39, committed the offence during the wee hours between Oct 16 and Nov 8 this year.

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old jobless man was jailed three months for having a modified knife in public.

Ree Roynald Chia pleaded guilty to committing the offence at 5.35pm on Dec 11 in the security guard room at Giant supermarket in Kolombong. Inspector Syahrin Ali prosecuted. – Jo Ann Mool
