'Labuan's LCD screen a road hazard' claim
LABUAN: The big screen LCD TV in front of Wisma Perbadanan Labuan is posing a road hazard to oncoming traffic from the Financial Park Complex, especially at night, according to residents. The bright glare of the screen when one drives after sunset and the video of scenes of Labuan is very distracting.

So far no accident had occurred but it doesn't mean we should wait for an untoward incident before action is taken, they said.

Though the videography is good with excellent colours, it is not the right medium to attract passing motorists because it is more suitable for pedestrians who have the time to stop and stare," said an office worker who wished anonymity.

"A billboard would be more appropriate to target moving vehicles, like in highways with bold visual," he said.

He also felt the road is too dimly-lit for pedestrians to feel safe to walk.

A hotel staff nearby said the screen should not be angled towards the traffic in front of the traffic light. She said it made more sense to locate the LCD at the Labuan Square.

This is an area where many hotel guests of two international standard hotels pass by when they go to the town centre. It can also provide some light entertainment for the townfolk in the evening, said Juanita.

"The LCD is useful when big events are held at the Square to show the highlights on stage which is too far to be seen by the crowd,"she added and also wondered why its switched on for 24 hours as the bright sun during the day makes it hard to notice the images.
