KOTA KINABALU: It's the time of the year when gifts - what to present to friends and loved ones - occupy one's time and thoughts. "But the best gift is a gift of hope," Dr William Vun, the senior pastor of the Glory Christian Centre (GCC) here, said recently in a sermon. "A lot of times, gifts of the material nature simply aren't good enough."GCC, an independent church at the Damai commercial centre here, is celebrating this year's Christmas with the theme 'A Gift of Hope' to encourage church members to reach out to non-churchgoers.

GCC Community Care, Cellgroups and Ministry teams had "Sharity" visits to various charity homes, hospitals and families in the city.GCC's production team and children's church, the Glory Kids, is credited with the production of successive, original plays the last few years. It is staging 'Prince and the Pearl' on Dec 20 and 21 from 5pm-7pm to drum across the message of hope.
The drama, to be staged at the 2,000-seater GCC Auditorium, centres on a fictional prince who, in his pursuit of an evil enemy of his father's kingdom, lost himself and became the evil's captive. "The Prince and the Pearl is a story about all of us," said one of the producers, Sarah Chang. "Like the Prince, we each strive to make it in this world, and in our strivings, we sometimes stray away from the most important things in our life.

"But there is always hope. It is this Christmas' gift of hope, like the Pearl in the story, that will draw us back to loved ones - to who we really are. Most of all, to the reason for Christmas - love and hope."Tickets for the two shows are available by calling GCC 088-250312 (O).
