32-year-old gets 26 years' jail and 14 strokes

KOTA KINABALU: A 32-year-old local man was sentenced to a total of 26 years' jail and ordered given 14 strokes of the cane for armed gang robbery.Sessions Court Judge Indra Ayub handed 13 years' jail plus seven strokes of the cane on each of two counts against Ferdinand Felix Jipony who admitted to the charges.

On the first count, Ferdinand together with six accomplices still at large had robbed while armed with a knife one Albert Wong Jong Tung, 41, of two smartphones and RM4,500.

The offence took place at 3am on July 5 this year at the Seng Chin Fong coffee shop in Country Height, Penampang.

On the second count, he together with the accomplices had robbed one Loh Lik Hong, using the same weapon, of a handphone and RM2,700 at the same place and time.

The offence under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.

The court ordered Ferdinand to serve the jail sentence concurrently.

Ferdinand is currently serving sentence, also for robbery.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Aida Fatimah Datuk Abdul Jabbar appeared for the prosecution.
