A People's Carnival and New Year Concert 2015
KOTA KINABALU: A 'People's Carnival and New Year Celebration Concert 2015' will take place on Dec 30-31 in the Lintasan Deasoka, here.Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir said the carnival aims to enliven the atmosphere of New Year celebrations in the city, and as a platform for city residents to participate en masse in community, sportsmanship and cleanliness awareness programmes.

He said this to reporters at a press conference at City Hall, Thursday.

Madingkir said among the events that will be held in conjunction with the 'People's Carnival and New Year Celebration Concert 2015' are a 'KK City Healthy Fun Ride', which would be organised by City Hall Cycling Team in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Civics Bureau Sabah, the Public Works Department and Sabah Amateur Radio Society.

"The 'KK City Healthy Fun Ride' cycling event is the first event of the carnival to be held on Dec 30, beginning at 2pm to 5pm.

"With the theme 'Healthy and Fit for Life', the event aims to bring awareness to the community about practising a healthy lifestyle through cycling activities, in addition to producing sports civilised society, concerned with the health and fitness of the body."

The event is expected to be officiated by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan.

About 300 participants are expected to take part starting from Lintasan Deasoka, through KK Jalan Bypass, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Tuaran, Likas Sports Complex, Jalan Istiadat, Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, KK Jalan Bypass and back to Lintasan Deasoka.

"This is a cycling distance of 10 kilometers, and each participant is required to complete the ride within one hour and 30 minutes. For the first 500 participants who successfully complete the ride, they will be entitled to a certificate of participation and lucky draw tickets."

Madingkir said on Dec 31, there will also be the launch of the 'My Buskers Corner' - organised in cooperation with City Hall, Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, Malaysian Buskers Club and Sabah Creative Industry Group Movement.

"The launching of the 'My Buskers Corner', or abbreviations MyBC, will be held from 8am to 12pm. The plan to create a 'My Buskers Corner' in every local authority is an effort to improve the welfare of the community and act as a special platform for art lovers to develop their talents systematically and effectively.

"Through this launch, some site or location of tourist attractions around the city will be identified as the performances site for the buskers to showcase their talents and skills, according to the specified time every day, including public holidays."

This event is expected to be officiated by Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, cum Creative Industry Group Movement (SCIGM) honorary patron Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

The buskers exhibition will also be held with buskers stage performances by buskers groups invited from Malaysian Buskers Club and SCIGM, together with the DJ Upang.

He said the highlight of the People's Carnival is the 2015 New Year Celebration Concert to be held on Dec 31 beginning at 7pm to 12.30am at Lintasan Deasoka, which is expected to be officiated by the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

"I would like to invite all residents of Kota Kinabalu City to celebrate a rollicking concert countdown to the year 2015, which will feature renowned artistes such as Firman (winner of Akademi Fantasia 2014), Adel (Akademi Fantasia finalist 2014), Mawi (Akademi Fantasia season 3) and Mila (Akademi Fantasia season 4).

"Also on the night of Dec 31 will be the appearance of the national rock legends including Rahmad Mega, Baggio Damasutra, and Nizam Laksamana and Amir Ukays who will putting up a special show for city residents.

"The evening concert will also be enlivened by local artistes Janrywine J. Lusin, Den Bisa, Rubisa Tiasin, Marlleynney J. Paul, Ezani Zai, Aznor Jipin; and invited bands such as The Evergreen, The Ariez, Rocktrus and Baracudda; and a group of dancers from Art Collection and a special appearance by Fiestar Cosplay Costume for the entertainment of visitors, especially the children.

"Not forgetting also the DJs and emcees invited to enliven the atmosphere of the concert, namely DJ Othoe, Abu Bakar Ellah and Roszlan Hussain."

Madingkir said during the carnival, there will be several other events such as a carnival bazaar and booth promotion on both days from 8am to 10pm or until the event is over.

To make way for this event, the car park in Lintasan Deasoka will be closed from Dec 23 to Jan 5, while Jalan Bandaran and jalan Perpustakaan will be closed temporarily as in the following table:

On Dec 30, 1.30pm to 5pm during the 'KK City Healthy Fun Ride'; On Dec 31, 7am to 12.30pm during the launch of Carnival Representatives and Launching 'My Buskers Corner' and on Dec 31, at 7pm to 12.30am during the New Year Celebration Concert 2015.
