3 families homeless in Papar fire

PAPAR: Three families were made homeless when their house was destroyed in a fire at Kg Melagui, here, Saturday. Kg Melagui Development and Security Committee Chairman Sapri Nasar said they immediately launched an emergency fund drive for the families who not only lost their home but also a Proton Saga vehicle which was damaged by the 3.45am fire.They estimated the overall loss to be about RM94,000.

Five personnel from the Papar Fire and Rescue Department rushed to the scene after receiving a call at about 4.06am. It was learnt that nobody was hurt in the fire, which was put out at about 4.35am. In a separate incident, a Proton Wira vehicle was damaged when the engine compartment caught fire at Wisma Sedco in Plaza Wawasan Api-Api Centre in Kota Kinabalu, Friday. State Fire and Rescue Department Public Relations Officer Mohd Affendy K. Ramin said nine personnel from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene at about 1.19pm.

He said the fire was already put out by civilians by the time the team arrived, adding that nobody was hurt in the incident.
