Swift response averts fire at hypermarket

KOTA KINABALU: Swift response from the Penampang Fire and Rescue Department prevented a food outlet near Giant Hypermarket in Putatan from being razed, Sunday.State Fire and Rescue Department Public Relations Officer Mohd Affendy K. Ramin said six personnel from the department went to the scene after being informed that smoke was seen coming out from the outlet's kitchen at about 3.21am.

The team managed to stop the situation from getting worse by switching off the cooking stove.

It was learnt that a pot of water was left boiling on the cooking stove was the only thing damaged in the incident.

In Papar, a workers' quarters was damaged in a fire at Taman Sg. Wang in Kinarut Lama on the same day. However, nobody was hurt.

The fire was already put out by civilians by the time personnel from the Papar Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene at about 1.25pm.

In Beaufort, a pregnant woman sustained minor head injury when the vehicle she was travelling in collided with another along Jalan Maraba, near Kg Bukau. It was learnt that the accident involved a Mitsubishi Storm and a Toyota Vigo.

Seven personnel from the Beaufort Fire and Rescue Department went to the scene following a call at about 3.20pm where they assisted the woman out of the vehicle.
