Ketamine: Man and wife face death penalty

KOTA KINABALU: A man and his wife were charged at the Magistrate's Court Monday with trafficking 50.50gm of ketamine.Kho Kee Chuan, 27, and Alexandra Ng Sin Yi, 20, both jobless, who appeared before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, were accused of committing the offence at 11am on Dec 8 in a house at Jalan Penampang Lama, Penampang.

However, no plea was recorded after the charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the death sentence on conviction was read to them.

Inspector Syahrin Ali, prosecuting, applied for another mention date pending the chemist's report.

Balitus set Jan 26 next year for mention and ordered the couple to be remanded further as the charge framed against them has no provision for bail.

Meanwhile, Kho and Ng were also accused of taking ketamine, syabu and amphetamine at 11.30am and 11.35am respectively at the same day and same place. No plea was taken from them.

The court also set Jan 26 for mention pending the availability of the chemist's report.

In another case, two jobless men were jailed six months each for having a stolen car.

Gordon Chong Set Foh, 41, and Jong Yew Sin, 33, pleaded guilty to having the stolen Proton Waja which was reported stolen from its owner at Regency Park, Penampang on Sept 8 this year.

The court ordered them to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest on Sept 9, this year. Inspector Azaman Hamat prosecuted.
