KOTA KINABALU: Petrol station owners must not overlook safety aspects at their stations, said Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Affairs Department (KPDNKK) Director Severinus Tukah."This is due to the high risk of fire incidents involving petroleum products," he said, adding that fire accidents are prone to occur at petrol stations especially when petroleum is exposed to outside elements.

He said this in his speech delivered by KPDNKK Chief Senior Assistant Director Pulnama Tarah during the Petroleum Safety Campaign at the Petronas Station KM16 in Tebobon here, Monday.

"The failure to obey rules will only contribute to fatal disasters," he said.

Speaking of the programme, he said it was held to increase awareness among petrol kiosks' owners, students and public concerning their safety at petrol stations.

Meanwhile, Executive SHE Petronas Rashvir Singh during his briefing explained that a disorganised workplace could be biohazards for firemen during emergency.

"A place that has a lot of things and items will cause firemen to face difficulties in passing through especially during their effort to rescue victims," he said.

Besides that, he also advised people to read, understand and obey the labels found at petrol stations to prevent disaster from occurring.
