Two money changers charged with cheating

PETALING JAYA: Two money changers were charged in the Magistrate's Court here Wednesday with cheating an Indonesian man of RM5,500 for remittance to the republic early this month.Asrul Zamri, 28, pleaded guilty to the charge, while Faizal Mohamed Hanifa, 34, pleaded not guilty.The two men, together with another person still at large, were charged with cheating the Indonesian man, by the name of Sukanto, by inducing him to hand them the money for remittance to Indonesia without a valid licence from Bank Negara.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Summit Mall, Persiaran Kewajipan, USJ 1, Subang Jaya, here, about noon last Dec 3.Magistrate Surya Wati Shawal allowed the two men bail of RM3,000 in one surety each and set Jan 22 for mention and sentencing.Earlier, after the court recorded Asrul's guilty plea, an argument broke out between Asrul and Faizal, who seemed to disagree with Asrul's guilty plea, resulting in the magistrate to reprimand them.Asrul maintained his guilty plea when asked by the magistrate.

In another court, Asrul and Faizal pleaded not guilty to a charge of cheating a contract worker, Rumayang, 43, also an Indonesian, of RM3,100 for the same offence.They were alleged to have committed the offence at the same place at 11 am last Dec 7.
