Petrol, cooking gas found hidden in boat

SANDAKAN: The Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) discovered subsidised petrol and cooking gas cylinders worth RM12,810 hidden under 3,000 rice gunny sacks and empty glass bottles inside a pump boat.Its enforcement chief here Capt. Maritime A.Razak Abd Rahman said they have seized 4,200 litres of subsidised petrol inside 21 drums and 21 cylinders cooking gas inside the boat that was detained here during thorough inspection.

"The pump boat was seized as there were 10 crew found committing Anti Human Trafficking In Persons and Anti Smuggling of Migrant 2007 (Act 207) and two passengers were detained for committing offences under Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).

"The 10 crew have been sentenced 10 months' jail each while the two passengers have been jailed five months each. All are aged between 17 and 58," he said here on Wednesday.

A. Razak said they believed the subsidised fuel and controlled item were to be smuggled into a neighbouring country.
