Woman jailed for having porn films, pirated DVDs

KOTA KINABALU: A woman was jailed 10 months for having for sale nine pornographic films and 118 pirated DVDs.Magistrate Mohd Faiz Omar handed the sentence to Sopiah Yessin, 35, after she admitted to the charges against her.On the first count, Sopiah was sentenced to six months' jail for having the pornographic films at 11am on Dec 21 this year at a bus station in Jalan Sepanggar in front of Indah Permai, here.ADVERTISEMENT On the second count, she was sent to prison for another four months for having the DVDs without the 'B' certificate, as required by the Film Censorship Board, at the same place and time.The offence, under Section 18(5)(a) of the Film Censorship Act 2002, carries a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000 or a jail term of up to three years, or both, on conviction.The court ordered Sopiah to serve the jail sentence consecutively from the date of her arrest.In the same court, a 30-year-old man was jailed five months and fined RM500 in default two months' jail for having weapons without a permit.ADVERTISEMENT Tajan Imam Amil admitted before Magistrate Mohd Faiz Omar to having a flying feather and four arrows at 8.50pm on Dec 22 this year by the roadside in Menggatal.Meanwhile, a local man was slapped with a fine of RM1,800 or four months' jail for taking syabu. The man admitted to taking the drug in the city area in November this year.

He was also ordered placed under police supervision for two years after paying his fine or serving his jail sentence.Inspector Syahrin Ali appeared for the prosecution.
