139 K'batangan flood victims get new homes

KINABATANGAN: About 139 flood victims received the keys to their new homes at Taman Desa Sejahtera Pelangi, here, recently.The houses were built by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) and funded by the National Security Council under the flood victims' resettlement project. It sits on a 5.6-hectare government land and is equipped with basic amenities, a prayer hut, a futsal court and a playground.

Kinabatangan Member of Parliament Datuk Bung Moktar Radin said applications for the resettlement programme had long been made to assist those faced by flooding here. "The project was initiated in October 2009 with a development cost of RM35 million and it has now become a reality," he said during the handing over of the keys at a ceremony here. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim officiated at the handing-over ceremony.According to Bung, the programme is a testimony of the Federal Government's concern about the welfare of the people in Sabah, adding that it also showed they were not sidelined from any form of assistance and basic amenities.

"The Barisan Nasional government always keeps promises, unlike the opposition which only knows how to make promises but unable to deliver them," he said. Bung also said Putrajaya would continue to solve the various problems of the people in Sabah, especially in delivering basic amenities like road, water and power supply and others in his constituency.
