KOTAADVERTISEMENT KINABALU: Dr Roland Chia's decision to retract his intention to step down as Inanam Assemblyman is wise as it will save the Government's and people's money since there will be no need for a by-election.Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah Chairman Datuk Lajim Ukin commended Chia for making an unselfish move and putting the people's interest first, particularly those in his constituency, despite his state of health.Lajim said Chia's good decision would further strengthen the party's unity and ensure continuation of its survival and struggle for the people in the State.ADVERTISEMENT "Congratulations to Dr Chia and thank you for making a wise move. Conducting a by-election will involve huge sums of money and the Government through its Election Commission (EC) would also have to spend the people's money."That is why Chia's decision was a right one…the people's money should be wisely spent on beneficial development," he said, when contacted, Friday.Lajim was commenting on the statement he (Chia) issued on Christmas Day, on staying on as Inanam assemblyman after considering feedback and suggestions from everyone during his "time of solitude".The 44-year-old dental surgeon dropped a bombshell in his Facebook and Twitter that he wanted to resign on Dec. 17 for medical reasons but could not be reached for elaboration as he was abroad. Chia said: "Initially, I expressed intention to resign as state elected representative because I am worried that I may not be able to serve the constituents of Inanam due to my medical condition.

"As my illness will continue as a thorn in my flesh, I weighed out my options with a heavy heart. It would be very unfair to my people in Inanam if I am unable to give them my best efforts."…During my time of solitude, I had the opportunity to consider various inputs and suggestions from all quarters. Hence, I have decided to continue my duties as PKR Assemblyman. I will try my utmost best to meet the expectations of my people in Inanam while beseeching their forbearance."Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
