KENINGAU: The Government is urged to resolve the persistent flooding problem in Sook and Keningau which has caused several thousand ringgit of losses to the villagers living along the Mempikit and Kauran rivers.Keningau PKR Deputy Chief Johari Tahir, during a visit to Kg Kauran here recently, said the riverbeds in both rivers are not deep enough and there is a need to carry out river deepening project to solve the problem.

"This problem has been going on for too long. In 2010, the area suffered eight flood incidents. Every year, villagers lose about RM40,000 because of flash floods.

"There is a PPRT house nearby and the owner, who is a single mother living with her children, had requested the Government to repair the riverbank in Kauran River but until now nothing is done. The house is now only one metre away from the riverbank," he said.

Johari said the Government should pay serious attention towards the plight of those who live along the rivers before something terrible happened.

Meanwhile, he urged those living in Bingkor, Liawan and Tambunan to contact him via his number 019-5881895 if they have any problem.
