Some 315 foreigners were hauled up for screening in an integrated operation led by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), here, Saturday.Upon thorough screening, 130 were sent to the Temporary Detention Centre for deportation after failing to produce valid travel and identification documents while three others were detained for drug offences.State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman said in a statement that the operation launched at 4am focused on the illegal immigrant hotbeds. "The operation was conducted in water village settlements including Woodview and Cahaya Baru where Esscom had previously conducted a census," he said. Checks were also conducted on several shophouse blocks believed to be hotbeds for the illegals. A total of 603 personnel from the Chief Minister's Department, Immigration, Forestry, National Registration Department, Health Department, Duchess Of Kent Hospital, Federal Task Force, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd, Water Department, Sandakan Municipal Council and the Sandakan Police Headquarters were involved in the operation. Among present were Esscom Commander Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun and Esscom Public Director Ruji Ubi. During the operation, 32 houses believed used by illegals were demolished by the Sandakan Municipal Council, while 1,000 houses were also issued with eviction notices as they were built illegally on State land. The massive operation was held following the release of the Royal Commission of Enquiry report tabled at the State Security Council Meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, recently. "The Government is looking seriously into the illegal immigrant issue in Sabah and the operation is only the beginning. More drastic action will be made to solve the illegals issue as the result of the RCI report," said Sukarti. On Dec. 3, Federal Chief Secretary Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa in announcing the outcome of the RCI report, said the Government is in the midst of executing recommendations in the report. From 2012 to November this year, he said 40,645 deported. Of this number 29,981 were from the Philippines, 10,055 from Indonesia and 618 from other countries. Sukarti said the operation was held not only to uphold the security under the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone), but also Sabah as a whole. He advised locals not to collaborate and protect these migrants, adding that action will be taken against those who violated the country's immigration laws.
