YB tells youths to avoid extreme ideologies

SEMPORNA: Senallang Assemblyman Datuk Seri Nasir Tun Sakaran said youths can practise harmony by avoiding narrow-mindedness and extreme ideologies. In relation to this, he said all quarters need to practise tolerance and acceptance of others' beliefs and traditions to build a united community.

"We also need to increase efforts in inculcating unity and build a modern community which is caring, peaceful and at the same time prosper," he said during the opening of the Men and Women Volleyball Open Championship, here.

The championship was jointly organised by the district Youth and Sports Department and the Semporna Volleyball GAGGIL Club, which began on Dec 25-28.

A total of 26 teams, 10 of which are women teams, took part in the sporting event. They came from the East Coast, Labuan, Papar and Kota Kinabalu.

Nasir said that the championship is important to encourage youths to take part in sports thus building a better generation, who will be the strength of the nation to progress.

"I am confident that such event during the school holidays will also allow the participants to spend time here and see how safe it is in the East Coast," he said.
