SKA Tambunan emerge champions

Kota Kinabalu: SKA Tambunan emerged as champions in the 2014 Sabah Karate Open held at the Kota Kinabalu Sport complex on Jan 3.They took home seven gold, five silver and three bronze medals for the overall title followed by SKA Penampang with three golds, eight silvers and 13 bronzes, and SKA Papar in third place with three golds, five silvers and five bronzes.

The gold contributors for SKA Tambunan were Mohd Akid Azlan with two (Primary 1-3 boy individual kata & Primary 3-4 boy kumite), Mohd Aiman Azlan (Primary 4-6 boy individual kata), Mellisa Nordin (Primary 5-6 girl kumite), Maychelle Rojer (Junior girl kumite-48kg), Muhd Aiman Azlan (Primary 5-6 boy kumite) and Pressy Misty Philip (Junior girl kumite +48kg).

Silvers were won by Nelson Normand Nordin (Primary 1-3 boy individual kata), Josvin Jose (Cadet boy individual kata), Amirah Syahirah Azlan (Cadet girl kumite +45kg), Muhd Arif Azlan (Junior boy kumite +55kg) and Gwendollyn Ginius (Junior girl kumite +48kg) while the bronze were won by Nurfarah Zamera (Primary 1-3 girl individual kata), Mellissa Nordin (Primary 4-6 girl individual kata) and Nurul Shakira Ayu (Senior female kumite).

A total of 250 athletes from 20 team took part in the event which was closed by Sabah Karate Association (SKA) President Datuk Wilfred Bumburing.

SKA Secretary General Julian Chin was pleased with the good turnout and he said the next event will be the State Junior Cadet Championship scheduled to be stage in Sandakan from Jan 30- February 1
