KOTA MARUDU: Many supporters and members of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) are dissatisfied as they feel the party is being sidelined in decision making and division of power, according to its Deputy President Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili."There have been too many grouses and complaints aired by the people that as a BN component party we are viewed as not playing much role in the governing of the State despite holding the post of Deputy Chief Minister.

"This reality needs to be corrected through a fairer and equitable distribution of power. The State BN needs a major reinvention, and power sharing cannot just remain a concept and not being practised.

"A simple thing like the appointment of Pemimpin Pembangunan Masyarakat has not taken place in some areas where the BN component parties lost to the opposition. It has been almost two years and the appointment has not been made in the areas.

"The people question why this is so hard to do unless the State BN leadership does not wish the component party machinery to be strong," he told a Christmas and New Year gathering, here, Monday.

Ongkili, who is also Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister, said the concept of power sharing in the state Barisan Nasional should be practised in reality instead of just being a rhetoric or concept.

He said PBS wanted the state BN leadership to improve the formula for power sharing among the BN component parties for the sake of the coalition's strength in governing Sabah.

"The guideline for power sharing was already formulated by a committee headed by Speaker Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak a few years ago but has yet to be implemented," he said.

He also said that the party's supporters could not be blamed for taking the view that PBS was not appreciated in the State.

"The BN State leadership should act now to correct the imbalance in power and the perception that the component parties are not needed," he said.

On the re-delineation exercise of State seats, Ongkili reiterated the party's call for the original electoral boundary for the former Langkon seat to be reinstated.

"We want the original electoral boundary to be reinstated because we need to focus on the needs of the people in the area in terms of development as the population has increased.

"Besides this, the re-delineation for the Langkon seat must reflect the multi-ethnic and religious composition in the area and not to gerry-mander to favour a particular ethnic group.

"Doing the opposite would be against the spirit of the federal constitution and election laws," he said.
