Battersea chief Liew quits to focus on EcoWorld

Penang: Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin plans to step down as chairman of Battersea Project Holding Company Ltd (BPHCL) to focus on other property development projects in the United Kingdom.Eco World Investment Co Ltd, a private vehicle controlled by Liew and former SP Setia Bhd acting president and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Voon Tin Yow, is acquiring a 75 per cent stake in a joint venture company called Eco World Bally more Holding Co Ltd (EcoWorld Ballymore).

United Kingdom-based Ballymore Group owns the remaining 25 per cent of EcoWorld Ballymore.

The joint venture will undertake three large-scale residential projects in London with gross development value of Pounds 2.2 billion (RM11.9 billion).

Liew, who was previously SP Setia president and CEO, said he had tendered his resignation.

"I am waiting for a response," he told Business Times on the sidelines of "EcoWorld Starlight 2015 New Year Concert" in Relau, here.

The Battersea power station regeneration project is owned by BPHCL, which is controlled by SP Setia and Sime Darby Bhd (40 per cent stake each) and the Employees Provident Fund (20 per cent).

Liew has been in the driver's seat of the iconic Euro10 billion (RM42 billion) development since its launch in 2013.

He was supposed to stay on as chairman until September.

Meanwhile, Eco World Development Group Bhd president and CEO Datuk Chang Khim Wah said the group was looking forward to making its presence felt in Penang, with the launch of its flagship project called EcoTerraces.

The project, which has a GDV of RM350 million, is located in Paya Terubong and targeted for completion by the end of 2018.

Chang said the 5.17ha development would feature 333 units of high-rise apartments.
