Resort staff hurt in gun handling demo in KB

Kota Belud: A gun handling demonstration landed a resort staff in hospital here after a General Operations Force (GOF) personnel accidentally pulled the trigger.In the 10pm incident, the GOF personnel was showing two workers how to operate his P22 handgun at the resort's dining hall on Pulau Mantanani, off Kota Belud. It was learnt that the victim was sitting five metres from the GOF personnel.

A police source said the GOF personnel accidentally fired a shot while showing bullets in the gun's chamber to the two workers.

The victim was hit on the stomach.

The resort manager, who was immediately alerted of the incident, lodged a police report.

"The injured staff member was transported to the Kampung Kuala Abai jetty in Kota Belud, where paramedics and police were awaiting.

"He was later taken to Kota Belud Hospital for treatment.

"He was then transferred to Queen Elizabeth 2 Hospital," said the source, adding that the victim was in stable condition.

It was learnt that the GOF personnel was based at the Pulau Mantanani police base.

Sabah police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman confirmed the incident. However, he did not comment further.
