Pahang: The extraordinary flood disaster in several states recently impacts positively on unity among the communities in the country. The Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said he saw personally the favourable development during his visits when the floods inundated Pahang.

"I could personally witness the Chinese community helping the Malays and vice versa when visiting flood inundated areas, likewise the Indian community.

"These could also be seen on Twitter and Instagram and this is a positive element which should be instilled to build a united society," he said.

Tengku Abdullah said this to reporters after a royal gotong royong programme to repair houses inundated by floods in the districts of Lipis and Jerantut in Kampung Air Gading here.

In his speech at the Air Gading community hall earlier, Tengku Abdullah also reminded the people residing in Pahang, regardless of their states of origin, to always be united and help each other during difficulties.

Tengku Abdullah also hoped the people in the rural area would rise once again to rebuild their lives by seeking job opportunities in the agriculture and industrial sectors.

Meanwhile, he said the Pahang Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council had spent RM109 million last year to help eight categories of the needy in the state.

At the same time, he said the council, to date, had given away RM917,000 to help flood victims in Maran, Bera, Lipis and Jerantut.

Meanwhile, during his visit to Jerantut, he gave his assurance any home damaged or destroyed by the floods in Pahang would be repaired and rebuilt.

He said the government would not let the flood victims suffer but would endeavour to help them recover their lives.

At the same time, he also urged all quarters including elected representatives and local leaders to unite and rebuild the lives of the flood victims. – Bernama
