Kota Kinabalu: The leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman is the reason for the rapid progress and political stability experienced by Sabah in the past decade."This was the conclusion by the participants of the 1Malaysia Young Journalists course after the dialogue with the Chief Minister, followed by lunch at his residence in Sri Gaya," said Malaysia Press Institute (MPI) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Chamil Wariya.

Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister for his willingness to spend time with the course participants on Monday, Chamil said the meeting and dialogue had enabled the young journalists to get first hand information on the progress and development planned by the State Government, particularly over the last 10 years.

"From being labelled as a sleepy hollow previously, Sabah is now one of the states that is on the right track to Vision 2020 that is to become a developed state by 2020 through diversification of economic activities and shedding dependence on the timber industry," he said.

Chamil said the 23 participants also believed that the political stability in Sabah for the past 10 years had something to do with Musa's leadership.

Apart from that, the participants also agreed that the inclusive development policies that banked on the acceptance and mutual respect that has become the guiding principle of the Chief Minister was the catalyst to Sabah's success so far.

"To the participants, mutual respect is the recipe for Sabah in successfully fostering the real unity among its 32 ethnic groups reflecting the true 1Malaysia spirit," he said.

Sabah had also become a model in the sustainable forest management through systematic planning that had been internationally recognised, he said, adding that it reflected the Chief Minister's concern for keeping the State's natural resources for posterity.

The close relationship with the Federal Government especially Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had also enabled Sabah to develop more rapidly, especially in terms of infrastructures such as the Pan Borneo Highway and security of East Coast through Esscom.

"The participants believe that under Musa's leadership Sabah will continue to achieve development milestones that will be hard to equal in the future," he said.
