Johor: 1Malaysia People's Housing (PR1MA) Corporation has approved the development of 72 residential projects throughout the country this year, said its chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Mutalib Alias. He said the projects would offer a total of 50,000 residential units to buyers.

"Overall, I understand that more than 11,000 units are at various stages of construction while for the remaining 32,000 to 40,000 units, land and site clearing are in progress," he told reporters after visiting Bandar Layangkasa and Tebrau PR1MA project sites, here.

Abdul Muttalib said most of the PR1MA houses were built in major urban and sub-urban areas, following the demands of many potential house buyers flocking to the areas in search of jobs.

"In addition, most of the PR1MA homes are catered for the middle income group, earning between RM2,500-RM10,000 a month," he said.

He added that Johor alone this year, the corporation had approved a total of nine PR1MA housing projects at Bandar Layangkasa, Tebrau, Taman Rinting (Masai), Taman Perling (Pulai district), and Skudai which would offer a total of 13,951 units for sale.

"For the moment, two projects are being developed at Bandar Layangkasa Phase 1 and Tebrau, involving the construction of 475 units of double storey terrace houses and 1,284 apartment units.

"They are expected to be completed in July this year and December next year resepctively," he said.

A total of 23,842 applications from both projects have been received from Johor residents since registration was opened on Jan 15. – Bernama
