Labuan: The mother of a child studying at Tadika Chi Hwa donated 10 Dell computer desktops to a kindergarten run by the Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Thursday.Pamela Phui Hee Yung described the gift as a small token to enhance learning for the pre-schoolers, who are between four to six years old.Although it is a Chinese medium school, half of its pupils are Bumiputras. Phui, a Chief Financial Controller of Tokio Marine Global, said learning Mandarin has become important in the global economy, while English is the language of knowledge.ADVERTISEMENT "Although Chinese characters are not easy, many non-Chinese parents are sending their children to Tadika Chi Hwa, not just because it is trilingual but also it ingrains them to count subconsciously on the strokes to make a character," she said.Learning multiplication and division is easier because numbers in Chinese is single syllable unlike Malay.Headmistress Poh Siew Cheng said the young non-Chinese pupils had no problem catching up with Mandarin as their minds are like sponge. The kindergarten has 22 teachers, three of them are non-Chinese.ADVERTISEMENT Phui told Chi Hwa Chairman Chia Sia Theng that her husband, an O&G engineer based in China would contribute more to the kindergarten to help the teachers and children.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
