Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah State Government will continue to contribute lion heads for non-governmental lion dance troupes this year, with priority given to troupes that have not received lion heads from the State Government in the past. Peter Chong Su Leong, Political Secretary to the Minister of Special Tasks, said the State Government has revised the State Budget this year and stepped up prudent measures in its expenditures due to the fall in oil prices. However, the State Government will continue to support lion dance activities, albeit a slight decrease in the number of lion heads given away to lion dance troupes this year, Chong said.

In a press statement issued Friday, Chong thanked the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman for his support and assistance towards the lion dance culture of the Chinese community, evident with the annual presentation of lion heads to lion dance bodies in the State. He also commended the State Government which has never ceased to support Chinese traditional cultures, despite readjustments to the State Budget to reduce public expenditure. Due to the reduction of allocation for lion heads this year, Chong said priority would be given to lion dance troupes that have not received lion heads from the State Government in the past so that they could benefit from the contribution. Application for the lion heads is now open till Feb 4 (Wednesday).
